Yip Chun Hei is a Hong Kong Chromatic Harmonica player and a core member of RedBricks, a well-known harmonica ensemble, with a passion for musical performance and teaching.

 

Yip has been actively competing in both international and local events, earning numerous awards and honors. He won Adult Duet Championship and Adult Orchestra Championship at the World Harmonica Festival in Germany, and also secured Third place in the Chromatic Harmonica Solo with Test Piece Category. At the Asia-Pacific Harmonica Festival, he won Champion in the Open Category for Chromatic Harmonica Solo. He also became the youngest finalist at the Hong Kong International Chromatic Harmonica Competition, where he earned Third place. Yip has been serving as a judge for the Seoul International Harmonica Festival and the Asia-Pacific Harmonica Festival for consecutive years.

 

In addition to his extensive competition experience, Yip has performed in many international and local concerts, aiming at promoting harmonica music to wider audiences. He has also appeared as a soloist at Carnegie Hall in the United States, demonstrating his outstanding harmonica skills and continuing enthusiasm for advancing harmonica culture. In recent years, Yip has toured with RedBricks to the United States, Russia, South Korea, and China. RedBricks also performs regularly at local events such as the Hong Kong Sevens and at the Hong Kong International Airport.

 

To discover promising new talent, Yip serves as a harmonica instructor and conductor for multiple schools, including King’s College Old Boys’ Association Primary School, King’s College Old Boys’ Association Primary School No.2, King’s College, St. Paul’s Co-educational College , and Hotung Secondary School. His students have accumulated over 20 awards in various international and local competitions, with impressive results.

 

Yip graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, majoring in Chromatic Harmonica under the tutelage of CY Leo. He has also studied with Mr. Lee Sheung-ching and Mr. Choi Wai-hang.
